"Die Kapelle in Moschi. Hofseite." ("The chapel in Moshi. Courtyard side.") Photograph of a chapel in Moshi. Gathering of African people in front of the chapel. 3 Europeans are coming out of the chapel, from left Mrs. Gutmann and the wife of Rudi Rother can be seen. The 3rd person is unknown. Cf. pictures nos. LPZ/Glass plate negative/ 126, LPZ/Album 22/0039. Bruno Gutmann (1876-1966), from Dresden, studied theology before moving to East Africa with the Leipzig Mission in 1902. Apart from his work in Masama he is well-known for his study of the Chagga people. For health reasons he had to return to Germany in 1908, but only one year later he came back to Masama. Until 1939, with some interruptions, he served in Kidia, the station Old Moshi.
