Ferocious-looking with his mop of wild gray hair and bristling beard, "Black Jack" Jerome Ward, the Gower Gulch cowpoke, came to court on September 20 of an unidentified year in the 1950s to stand trial on charges of disturbing the peace. "Blackjack" allegedly threatened the life of a market manager who refused to lend him "a couple of bucks."
