Description
Featured on page 30 of Connie Young Yu's "Chinatown, San Jose, U.S.A." with caption, "On March 8, 1887 city council officials ordered the destruction of Chinatown on the grounds that it was a health hazard to the surrounding area. Before the council edict could be enacted, a fire broke out along Ah Toy Alley on May 4, 1887, destroying the entire settlement."
