Built in the 1880s and originally located at 339 S. Bunker Hill Avenue, the "Salt Box" was Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument #5. Approximately seven months after it was relocated to Heritage Square Museum in March, 1969, it was completely destroyed by a fire, believed to have been set by arsonists.
