Photograph caption dated January 26, 1961 reads, "The Nike Zeus, shown on carrier, is replacing the Hercules Nike in areas around the Valley. The nuclear-tipped rocket is designed to destroy enemy missiles in the air before they can explode their hydrogen warheads over cities and bases. Capt. John Perkopwski, above, is commander of the Nike Zeus Van Nuys site, 15900 Victory Blvd., Van Nuys."
