Boys and girls play on a Parks and Recreation Department float as part of the “Burbank on Parade” festival in the 1940s while spectators watch. “Burbank on Parade” began in May 1945, organized by the Burbank Junior Chamber of Commerce as a three-day patriotic and civic event that would coincide with both the city’s 58th anniversary and the Seventh War Loan Drive to sell war bonds to help finance World War II. The festival was repeated annually until 1956, when the city withdrew permission to use the Olive Recreation Center due to its increasing "carnival atmosphere," according to a June 24, 1956, article in the Los Angeles Times. In 1981, a group of Burbank residents revived the idea of a city-focused parade and continue to hold a "Burbank on Parade" event annually. Notes on back of photo: "40's Burbank on Parade.
