Description
Map of Claremont from 1897. The map covers approximately the area south of Tenth Street, north of Cucamongo Avenue, east of Alexander (now Indian Hill) Boulevard, and west of Forest Avenue. In left upper corner it says, " Map of Claremont, Los Angeles Co., California. Seat of Pomona College 1897. Explanation: Improvements in Claremont are indicated on map with date and amount and represent condition April 1st, 1897. The town plant was made in 1887. College located there in 1889. Gift to the college was Sumner Hall and fifty acres of land. About one-quarter of town site is owned by many purchasers who bought in 1887 and 1888. The lots now for sale are owned by two residents and the college. Note - For information, address Pomona College or O.H. Duvall, Claremont, Cal."
