Description
This 1980 photograph captures a field of infant crops in the Pocket Area of Sacramento. In the background is a grove of deciduous trees. Seven miles south of downtown Sacramento along the Sacramento River, the Pocket Area was settled in the second half of the 19th century by farming families, many of whom were ethnic Portuguese. The neighborhood was annexed by the City of Sacramento in 1959.
