Description
Two soldiers stand on the deck of the USS Meigs on the third day of the voyage. Williams wrote on the negative sleeve: "Interesting angles. Lone figures looking homeward--facing an uncertain future. Jan 16th 52". This photo is part of a series documenting Williams’ shipping out to Korea. The journey started in Pittsburg, California (Camp Stoneman), where a ferry carried troops to San Francisco for embarkation to Japan, and on to Korea. The bulk of the journey took place on the USS General M. C. Meigs Navy transport ship, which sailed from San Francisco to Yokohama, Japan between January 14th and 28th, 1952.
