Description
1989-1328. In: [Scenes of Sacramento] [manuscript] / Eugene Walter Hepting. [Sacramento, Calif. : E. Hepting, 1938?], Vol. C, leaf 47. Large mansion sits on the corner; 3 stories with basement; entrance is not indicated but may be on the extreme right of the structure as a decorative roof extends beyond the side; in front of this a man is walking; 1st floor has rectangular windows; 2nd floor has tall round-arched windows and 3rd floor rectangular windows, some with balconies in front; bay window structures and rectangular sections seem to protrude from the building; decorative cornices supported by corbels separte 2nd from 3rd floors on sections; flat roof has a chimney. Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento. "Residence of John H. Carriol, Pres. of Pac. Mutual Life Ins. Co. Erected in 1869.This insurance company org. in Sacramento."
