Firefighters evacuated about 60 people from DWC laundry, located in the 1100 block of E. Washington Boulevard, after a 55-gallon drum containing a strong irritant-sodium hydrosulfite sprung a leak. The chemical, a reducing agent, is used in the treatment of textiles. Nine employees complaining of skin and eye irritation were taken to local hospitals as a precautionary measure.
Two Hazmat members (on right) can be seen being washed down by other members after they finished inspecting a toxic chemical drum sprung a leak at DWC laundry. April 27, 1988.
