Microfilm of a record book containing the meeting minutes of the Canaan Cooperative Stock Co. from 1875-1880. The entries primarily relate to the cattle business, including the hiring of employees, the management of ranches, and the building and repair of houses, corrals, and fences, as well as financial transactions such as the disposal of butter and cheese and the selling of ranches, capital stock, and steer. Some portions of the document are very faint and partially illegible. On the same reel (frames 64-156) as MSS MFILM 00239 (item 1) and MSS MFILM 00239 (item 2). The Huntington also has a printed photostat of the company's minutes from 1880-1888 (FAC 1423). All inquiries about this item should be directed to the H. Forms part of the Manuscripts Department's Mormon file, c.1805-1995. The Canaan Cooperative Stock Co. was organized in 1870 and incorporated in Saint George, Utah. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints encouraged cooperative ownership of livestock such as cattle, horses, and sheep among its members and this was one such company. It was in operation for approximately 25 years and owned ranches in Washington and Kane Counties, Utah. People associated with the company include Erastus Fairbanks Snow (1818-1888), James Godson Bleak (1829-1918), Edwin Gordon Woolley (1849-1930), Daniel Duncan McArthur (1820-1908), and James Andrus (1835-1914).
