Description
This divided-back card was postmarked September 20, 1910, and sent from the Jameson Ranch in Marysville to East Oakland via boat. River-dredging for gold was conducted with permit by licensed private industry while major jobs such as levee reinforcement and channel digging or widening was handled by the Army Corps of Engineers. The “sidedraft” clamshell dredger shown here used a heavily-timbered block and tackle system with a scooping device shown just above the surface of the water to do its’ job.
