Description: Pictured in January 1959, librarian Jane Jarvis checks out books to children at the Mabel Gillis Branch of the Sacramento City Library, located at 4001 Sixtieth Street. A native of Indiana, Jarvis joined the library system in 1953, eventually becoming branch manager at Belle Cooledge. She retired in 1973.
