Description
Title supplied by cataloger. Author Rachel Field is shown shortly after disembarking at T.A.T.-Maddux air-liner at the Grand Central Air Terminal in Glendale. Field's book "Hitty, Her First Hundred Years," was the recipient of the 1930 Newbery Award which was announced at the American Library Association convention held that year at the Los Angeles Public Library's Central Library. As a publicity stunt, Fields was notified of the honor while in flight above the Cajon Pass when California State Librarian Milton J. Ferguson broke the news from another plane via the radio. Here. Fields is pictured with Effie L Power, the chair of the Section of Library Work with Children of the American Library Association, and Ferguson.
