Photograph caption dated May 6, 1963 reads, "John Black, right, of North Hollywood, one of the founders of the American Legion, talks over the birth of the organization with another founder, E. Burt Greuel, during a Legion celebration this weekend at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles. Black was a member of the 1919 St. Louis Caucus, while Greuel was part of the 1919 Paris Caucus."
