Photograph caption dated September 21, 1961 reads, "'It's one of the most modern and best equipped in the county system,' officials said Wednesday when the new $1.5 million Los Angeles County Sheriff station in Lancaster was dedicated. The facility at 10 Street West and Avenue J has been in operation since Aug. 14. More than 400 people yesterday turned out to watch a battery of Los Angeles County officials join with Antelope Valley leaders in the ceremonies. Included in the station which covers more than 20,000 square feet are secretarial, communications, booking, teletype, interview and assembly rooms, plus a 28-cell jail."
