Description
This circa 1940 photograph shows the Hotel Berry at the northwest corner of Eighth and L streets. Opened in 1926 by the Berry brothers, Harry and B.S., the 115-room structure was designed by architect John Carl Thayer and built by J.W. Little and Company. It contained enough space on its first floor for ten specialty stores. Until August 1926, trees lined the Eighth Street side of the structure but were removed for fear that they obstructed the Berry's marquee.
