Description
In 1944-1945 the Barr Lumber Company invited three architects to design model houses for an unbuilt experiment and engaged landscape architect Garrett Eckbo to create gardens for each of the proposals. For his submission, Whitney Smith wrote an extensive text, accompanied by drawings, that describe the special features and planning reasons behind each room and asserts that his design "defines urban living as an intimate garden out of which the house rises."
