Description
Photograph of El Capitan as seen from the Merced River, Yosemite National Park, California, ca.1900. Across the river, a forest of conifers and other trees surround the base of El Capitan. Shrubs and grass waddle in the river (foreground). "El Capitan - the most famous cliff in Yosemite - a 3,000 foot high block of granite opposite Bridalveil Falls, that dominates the western end of the valley. It is very popular with rock climbers, who sometimes have to camp overnight half way up, while securely fastened to narrow ledges." -- unknown author.
