Description
Annotation translation: "Mrs Burckhardt writes: Ponuama [reading uncertain] is a hindu girl. She has been coming to the mission house frequently to listen to stories from the Bible, and believes in Christ. The priest forced her to take part in a devil's dance every night for 5 days. In this dance twelve young girls had to turn round and round till they were nearly losing consciousness. Her only comfort was that I could be with her in these occasions. The evening before this began she asked me to tell her the Christmas story."
