Photograph caption dated September 26, 1957 reads, "Charles McCarthy, right, accepts membership on Valley Branch Board of Directors of American Red Cross, from Bowen McCoy, Los Angeles chapter manager. Bjarne Larsen, left, presided at regular board meeting in absence of Martin Pollard, board chairman. Pollard had announced selection of McCarthy as board member from Sunland-Tujunga area following recent merger of that area with San Fernando Valley branch. McCarthy, a long time leader in civic affairs in the Valley, was fund chairman for Sunland-Tujunga Red Cross for several years after World War II. Along with Tom Bane he will represent Sunland-Tujunga on the branch board."
