"Carriers in the bush, Mendiland. Rev James Walton with his hammock" Sierra Leone, West Africa, January 1909. William Turnbull Balmer visited his Methodist Missionary Society colleague, Reverend James Walton at his station in Segbwema in order to study the Mendi language. They set out together to travel to the annual Synod in Freetown on 19 January 1909 at the request of the Chairman of the District, William H Maude. This photograph was taken on their journey.See The Foreign Field August 1909.
