View of large house with sections protruding from the front and the side; entrance is on left up a set of stairs, topped by a pediment; covered porch on 1st floor supported by columns; 2 floor house with basement; section above entrance and section above porch have separate triangular roofs; rectangular windows on 2nd floor; on right side a wing extends perpendicular to house with windows on basement level, 1st & 2nd floor and small windows under roofline at 4th floor level; behind house another house can be seen in background; tree trunks extend in front of house beyond photo and car parked to side.
Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento.
"Residence of A.A. VanVoorhies. House was erected about 1885... Trees in front of house were blown over in storm of Feb. 9th, 1938."
