Birds-eye view of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer as it is today, on its Silver Anniversary. The white building in the upper right hand corner is the Irving Thalberg Building which houses all of the M.G.M. executives, producers, directors, writers, etc. The larger buildings pictured are all sound stages, one of them Stage 30, has a huge pool beneath a sliding floor where Esther Williams and her mermaid ballet disports. At the bottom of the picture can be seen a few village sets, a harbor with ships, etc. The M.G.M. plant covers 174 aces, including a back lot with villages and streets of all nations, which does not show in this photograph. Photo dated: May 31, 1949.
