Description
Frémont's famous map of the west as drawn by Charles Preuss. California is extended as far east as the Rockies by a hand drawn 42nd parallel extension. This map shows the east-west mountains across Nevada which do not exist and which lured travelers to the dry south, expecting water at the base of these mountains. From 30th Congress, 1st Session. Submap: Profile of the traveling route from South Pass of the Rocky Mountains to the Bay of San Francisco. Prime meridian: GM. Relief: hachures. Projection: Polyconic. Printing Process: Lithography.
