Photograph caption dated May 22, 1956 reads, "Norman Neuls, 16, of San Fernando, waited six months for his birthday present - solo flight in airplane. Fred Maw, flight instructor, briefs youthful aviator before take-off. Norman was ninth to solo in North Hollywood Boy Scout Air Squadron 3, sponsored by North Hollywood Optimist Club."
