A two-story house with porch sits to the left of a fenced garden of palms and other plants at the residence of A. N. Carter of San Gabriel (presumably now San Marino, California). A man stands in the distance, and behind him is a blooming century plant. Title derived from Watkins New Series stereo #4796. Date devised by cataloger; Watkins made two trips to Southern California, in 1877 and 1880. Transcribed from enclosure: "[Garden and residence at Willowdale, N.C. Carter residence, San Gabriel, Calif.]" Watkins New Series stereo #4796 identifies location as residence of A.N. Carter, likely Arthur N. Carter, son of Nathaniel C. Carter.
