Description
This Chevrolet assembly plant opened in 1947 and produced the Chevrolet Corvair, Chevrolet Nova, Chevrolet Camaro, Chevrolet full-size models and the Pontiac Firebird. The plant was closed in 1992 after the production of Camaro and Firebird vehicles was moved to Sainte-The´re`se Assembly in Quebec. In 1998, the facility was razed and replaced with a large retail and industrial complex, known as The Plant. GM continues to operate a car-testing facility nearby.
Photograph caption dated February 24,1958 reads, "Frames are shipped to assembly plants where workmen attach engine mountings and assemble front suspension to frame. This is the first step in assembly on new Chevrolet."; See images #00114122 through #00114126 for all photos in this series, under the main caption, "Off this assembly line comes the Chevrolet."
