Pearl Skinner, on left, and her husband, George C. Skinner, on right, put the finishing touches on Doc, one of the Seven Dwarfs, for Skinner's spectacular Christmas display on December 21, 1951, at their home at 1531 No. Curson Ave., Hollywood. Skinner, a former paralytic, now a movie sound man, and his wife, Pearl, an architectural firm employee, are making the display all by themselves. They are using eight parakeets, which they have trained, in part of the display and all of the seven dwarfs. Skinner was famed for his elaborate displays at his home in Boyle Heights at 919 Mathews Street before the war. He uses about 1100 bulbs and 7750 watts of electricity an hour in his current display. Note: the parakeet perched on her head, the other lovebird on Doc.
