Photograph was edited for publication purposes. Raymond Burr was born on May 21, 1917 in Canada. He had a varied career, working on Broadway, in radio, in films as a character and on television. He is best remembered for his TV roles in "Perry Mason" and "Ironside," winning two Emmy awards for his work in "Perry Mason." Burr was married once, but that union lasted less than four years. It was an "open secret" in Hollywood that Burr was gay and he lived with his partner, Robert Benevides, for nearly forty years. Burr was known for being a generous and kind person, giving to charities often and treating his fellow actors well. He died on September 12, 1993. Photograph caption dated June 28, 1965 reads "Actor Raymond Burr, well known for his 'Perry Mason' role, is shown at a South Vietnamese army compound during his recent visit there. He toured 25 advanced outposts where he spoke to U.S. troops. While there, he adopted some 20 orphans and started four orphanages." Burr is walking by a barbed-wire fence with two men in military uniforms, one is carrying a camera.
