Academy Awards emcee Frank Sinatra states April 8th that he had been asked to make a statement on behalf of the Motion Picture Academy saying, "We are not responsible for any political statements made on this program and we're sorry they had to take place this evening." Sinatra's comment came shortly after Burt Schneider, coproducer of the winning feature documentary "Hearts and Minds" had read a telegram reportedly from the Viet Cong congradulating Americans on what they had done in behalf of peace. The rebuke has been disclaimed by the Academy representatives.
