Description
2008-2799 PHOTO: MCLAUGHLIN, FRANK Shows man in field, seated on log, looking left. Dressed in coat, vest, hat and watch chain. "Friend of Hulbert" -- handwritten on back. "Jun 5 1920" -- stamped on verso. Irish American civil and mining engineer who came West with the building of the Union Pacific railroad. Involved in promoting variety of ventures including, in late 1890's, the building of flume and log dam to divert Feather River and mine riverbed (known as Golden Feather). Eventually, settled in Santa Cruz, building a villa, Golden Gate. Part of the Maude Hulbert (Horn) Family, 1874-1982 manuscript collection.
