Description
Buddhapāda (also called siripatulgala) is an imprint in bas-relief, here on platform of the stūpa; the five toes of each foot are of equal length. These aniconic sculptures preceded the creation later of images or statues. The Buddhapāda were decorated with different symbols; here, a dhammachakra (Wheel of the Law--the Buddhist doctrine) is in the center.
