Description
This image was originally part of a California State Library photographic history project documenting the daily lives and historical, political, and cultural contributions of California's diverse communities. On June 12, 1999, Long Beach residents donated to the Long Beach Public Library 398 family and personal photographs as part of this ongoing statewide project. Shown here is a photograph of a portion of the Long Beach Municipal Band. Bottom row, L-R: Bob Oulette, Charlie Berry, Bob Hamilton (leader of the band, circa 1940), Bill Sherman, and Chet Ball. Top Row: Herb Leisner, Judd North, Paul Tibbetts, Warren Gale, and Art Claar. Instruments shown are saxophones, trumpets, cornets, acoustic string base, and drum. The players are dressed in suits and wear carnation boutonnieres. This image was taken at the Majestic Ballroom (later called the Lido Ballroom). DATE NOTES: Noted on image back. ORIG.
