Description
Tinted lantern slides showing several European gentlemen standing on a wood and stone bridge in an unnamed area of China to observe a rising flood. One young Chinese man stands on the bridge with his bicycle. His outfit has been tinted white, whereas the shirts of the Europeans have been tinted with a yellow colour. The river may be the Yangtze (or Changjiang river), which flowed next to Wuchang, where the mission work of Charles Somerville was based, and which flooded in 1911. The slide was developed by the Photo Department, Tientsin Hui Wen Academy, Tientsin, China.
