Title supplied by cataloger. Built by Todd Shipyard in San Pedro as the SS Washington Mail, this ship was delivered to American Mail Lines in early 1962. After nearly 10 years of service, she was lengthened and converted into a container ship by Bethlehem Shipbuilding Co. in San Francisco and renamed the SS President Roosevelt a couple of years later on November 26, 1975. Ownership changes continued and the ship was then sold to Delta Lines and renamed the SS Santa Rosa. Two years after that, it was sold once again to U.S. Lines and renamed SS American Builder. After having been laid up for a couple of years, the ship underwent one last conversion in 1989 to become a Maritime Administration crane ship and was given the name SS Equity State. It was then assigned operation control of the Military Sealift Command (MSC) and placed in service to the Ready Reserve Force (RRF) as SS Equity State (ACS-8) in New Orleans, LA. Upon its removal from MSC control and withdrawal from RRF, it was reassigned to the National Defense Reserve Fleet on July 28, 2006. Its final disposition was to Brownville, Texas for recycling in 2019. The SS President Roosevelt, a container ship, docked at the Port of Los Angeles, December 1975.
