J. L. Willis, medical supply salesman, is shown with his wife and his mother, Mrs. W. E. Willis, working around their homestead on the government's new housing project in El Monte. They are one of the 100 families living in one-acre plots on the project. After their working hours are ended, the men come home to their little plots and spend their time in their gardens. Most say it's hard work, but they are happy in spite of minor disappointments. Photo date: March 6, 1936.
