Description
Pictured in 1930 is Christian Brothers School at 21st and Y streets. The ornate Mission Revival-style building was built in 1924 by the Sacramento contracting firm of W.C. Keating. Notable alumni include Superior Court judges Peter J. Shields, Raymond T. Coughlin, Edward Garcia and Joseph Babich, along with KCRA-TV reporter and producer Larry Menard and architect Harry Devine. To adjust to growing class loads, the school was razed in 1964. Boys were moved to the former Bishop Armstrong School at 4315 Sacramento Blvd., while girls were taught at the newly constructed Bishop Manogue High School at the 21st and Y location. The photograph was taken from Y Street.
