Description
A rendering of an aerial view of the Physical Education building. The gym was named after State Senator Alfred W. Robertson, who was instrumental in bringing the UC to Santa Barbara. Originally home to the basketball team, the arena was also a concert venue for acts such as the Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, and Bruce Springsteen.
“Rob Gym” is still in use today as the venue for men’s volleyball. Additional athletic facilities include Harder Stadium (Edwards & Pitman, 1966), the Events Center/Thunderdome (ELS Design Group, 1980), the Recreation Center (Sasaki Associates/Grant Pedersen Phillips Architects, 1994), and Intercollegiate Athletics (Cannon-Dworsky, 2005).
