A southern California native, Orpha Klinker studied for a time in Europe before returning to the U.S. She was deeply interested in California history and much of her early work had to do with this subject. She later then turned primarily to portraiture, painting many of the movers and shakers of southern California, although she also executed still lifes and landscapes. Among the collectors of her works may be numbered Winston Churchill and Franklin Roosevelt.
