Description
The first train to the Summit of Mount Tamalpais, Aug. 26, 1896. There are two carloads of the press. Note the engine pulling the cars, done only during the first months of operation. After that the trains were pushed uphill and pulled downhill to keep the smoke stack from soiling the passengers going uphill.
