Shown are seven of the contestants in the modern pentathalon taking the water in the start of the second heat of the 300-meter swimming event in the Olympic swimming stadium. From left to right are: W. Remer (Germany), who was fourth; B. Lindeman (Sweden), first; R. Mayo (U.S.A.), fifth; M. Casanova (Mexico), who failed to finish; E. Sonfai (Hungary) got away first and is out of the picture, finishing third; W. Van Rhijn (Holland) was second and I. Duranthon (France), sixth. Photograph dated August 5, 1932.
