Description
The girl at the soak tub is culling frost-damaged lemons as they float to the surface. At right lemons can be seen going into the "blue-stone" tank where a weak solution of copper sulphate killed the brown rot fungus. From there, the lemons go to the grading-for-color-table. Golden West Citrus Association was established around 1917, initially packing lemons, then adding an orange packing house around 1930. The packing house was located on the east side of Newport Avenue, south of Irvine Boulevard.
