Description
2018-0605. "Part of old Constitutional Saloon Blg. used as the county library later till Woman Club bought the bldg. and remodeled it" -- handwritten on verso. Erected in 1860 or 1861 as the Constitution Saloon; deeded to the Women's Improvement Club of Jackson in 1917; served as Red Cross Headquarters during World War I; became the main office of the County Library. Shows entrance prior to restoration. Taken during "The Days of '49," May 22-29, 1922. Mrs. Whipple on left, Mrs. McCoy of Sacramento on right.
