Photograph was edited for publication purposes. The Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, located at 3939 S. Figueroa Street, was officially opened on July 4, 1959 by then Vice President Richard M. Nixon and was designed by Welton Becket; general contractor was L.E. Dixon Company. The last event at the arena was a Bruce Springsteen concert. The arena was closed on March 19, 2016 and demolished to make room for a new soccer stadium. Photograph caption dated April 3, 1964 reads "It appears that Los Angeles Blade Gordon Vejprava is using two hockey sticks against the Denver Invaders, but it is only Marty Howe of the Invaders who is so close behind Vejprava that he is hidden from the camera, except for his war club. The Blades and Invaders play their fifth playoff game tonight in the Sports Arena."
