Photograph was edited for publication purposes. The Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, located at 3939 S. Figueroa Street, was officially opened on July 4, 1959 by then Vice President Richard M. Nixon and was designed by Welton Becket; general contractor was L.E. Dixon Company. The last event at the arena was a Bruce Springsteen concert. The arena was closed on March 19, 2016 and demolished to make room for a new soccer stadium. Photograph caption dated January 7, 1965 reads "Busy earning his keep during second night in a Los Angeles Blade uniform is goalie Jim [sic] McCartan (1), seen making scrambling save of shot by Seattle's Bob Barlow (left) during first period of last night's Sports Arena game. In background is Blades' Harley Hodgson. Totems won 3-1, but two teams meet again Friday."
