Description
Close up showing the hiker's map on the side of the Old Mill Market. William & Minna Thran purchased the store at 332 Throckmorton Ave, Mill Valley, California, on May 24, 1949 and the map was already there. They remodeled the store about 1952 and covered up the sign with shingles. It was uncovered later on, and in 2009, the building was torn down to build townhouses. According to an article in the Marin Independent Journal from 12/31/2014, "It was a local grocery store, and hikers would go to get supplies and ask, 'How do I get to the top of Mount Tamalpais?' and the like," said Mill Valley Parks Supervisor Brandon Stewart. "So the proprietor painted a trail map on the side of the building to answer their questions."
