"Traveller on S.S. Nevasa." Portrait of a European lady on the deck of the S.S. Nevasa on route to British East Africa. This is probably the S.S. Nevasa (1884-1909) owned by the British India Steam Navigation Co. Ltd. which was built by William Denny & Brothers of Dumbarton. This image is from a collection of photographs which possibly belonged to Dr Karl Uffman, son of Dr Henry Uffman of the Leprosy Asylum in Purulia, West Bengal. He studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh and joined the Kikuyu mission in Kenya, from 1901 to 1905.
