Photograph caption dated July 2, 1964 reads, "The entire lower level store of Rathbun's Department Store, 5311 Lankershim Blvd., North Hollywood, has been converted into a modern, air-conditioned department devoted to the homemaker that sews. Ted Rathbun, store president, said that the sewing center came about after months of planning and building. Rathbun's now carries all the internationally famous sewing machines and has a complete sewing machine repair center on the premises, a selection of the most-wanted fabrics, patterns, findings and accessories. Also available is a shop-at-home service for draperies, upholstering and slip covers and a modern vacuum cleaner sales and service. Rathbun invites the public to see the new addition."
